Superstar quarterback scores billionaire backing for new celebrity app
Seattle Seahawks' top quarterback, Russell Wilson, has scored billionaire investments for his new app, TraceMe.
The app, which gives superfans exclusive insights into celebrities’ private lives, is an immersive, interactive, content-filled experience aiming to drive up engagement from fans and rival influencer big wigs Facebook and Instagram.
Wilson has won £9million in funding for the app, which is currently in Beta, from billionaire backers Jeff bazos, Alibaba founder Joe Tsai and YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley.
Joining the billionaires is Seattle-based firm Madrona Venture Group, and Mike Mahan and Kenny Dichter, founders of Wheels Up.
Wilson will be the first celebrity to use the app, hosting his own podcasts from behind-the-scenes training to personal views.
With the app, Wilson hopes to fill a gap in the market for exclusive content tailored specifically to fans.
